ARMONK, N.Y. -- Byram Hills High School was named the 173rd best high school in the country by U.S. News & World Report in its annual ranking of best high schools Tuesday. It was also named the 30th best in New York.

U.S. News & World Report enlisted the help of social science research firm RTI International to compile its rankings. They measured schools using four key metrics:

Byram Hills boasts a 12:1 student-to-teacher ratio and has 76 percent of the student body participating in AP exams.

Nine other Westchester schools made the top 40 in New York:

  • Rye (No. 10)
  • Edgemont (No. 20)

  • Horace Greeley (No. 27)
  • Pleasantville (No. 29)
