Byram Hills Group Takes Music Out to the Ballgame

Music is synonymous with baseball games, whether it is an organist playing at a stadium or songs blaring over the public address system to entertain the fans.

Players and fans at the eighth annual  Armonk Baseball League Memorial Day Classic at the Town of North Castle Community Park were treated to the musical sounds of a local group. The Tim Gallagher Sextet, comprised of six students at Byram Hills High School, gave their time to perform.

The group was formed by senior Tim Gallagher, who plays the French horn. He is joined by classmates Zandor Weiss, on trombone, and Jeff March, on keyboards. Completing the group are junior Mike Cziner, who plays trombone, and freshman Mike Birkenholz playing the drums. Senior Max Deutsch (drums) and Zach Barro (saxophone) also play but were unable to attend Saturday.

“(Event organizer)John Walsh is my neighbor and he asked me if we would play,” said Gallagher, who will attend the Manhattan School of Music and study the jazz horn. “He asked us last year but we were unable to do it. We weren’t sure if we could do it, but we were able to set it up yesterday.”

Gallagher said the group plays at school and other community events

“It feels great, especially any chance we have to play for our community,” Gallagher said. “It gives us exposure, but it allows the people to enjoy it.”
