WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – Gov.Andrew Cuomo has namedformer U.S. Rep. Kathleen C. Hochul as his running mate on the Democratic ticket.
Hochul, 55, who is also a former Erie County clerk and Hamburg town councilwoman, will be introduced Thursday at the Democratic Party’s convention on Long Island, according to a report in the Buffalo News.
Hochul’s knowledge of federal affairs, background in business, local government experience and expertise on the complexities of restoring western New York’s economy were key in Cuomo’s decision to choose her as his running mate, he said.
Cuomo and Hochul will run against Republican candidate Rob Astorino, the Westchester County executive, and his running mate, Chemung County Sheriff Chris Moss. Moss is the first African-American on a statewide GOP ticket in New York state.
