Yonkers resident Junior Silverio-Ventura - who was 19 years old at the time of the crash in September 2016 - has been sentenced to six months in Westchester County Jail and five years probation after pleading guilty in March to a felony count of criminally negligent homicide for his involvement in the crash.
Silverio-Ventura was driving on the Saw Mill River Parkway near the McLean Avenue exit in Yonkers in the early hours of Labor Day on Sept. 5, 2016, when his car crashed into the rear end of 18-year-old Yonkers resident Zachary Dunn’s disabled vehicle, while he and a passenger were in the car. Dunn was critically injured and later succumbed to his injuries and died. Dunn’s passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Silverio-Ventura went on to flee the scene of the crash.
According to Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr., Silverio-Ventura was returning to Yonkers on the day of the crash after a night out in Manhattan with a group of friends in three cars at the time of the accident. The Acura he was operating was also unregistered at the time of the fatal crash.
The fatal incident was investigated by both the Yonkers Police Department and Westchester County District Attorney’s Office. Silverio-Ventura began his jail sentence on Monday.
