Westchester Airport Reports Smooth Flying Sunday

WESTCHESTER, N.Y. – Travelers at the Westchester County Airport got in and out smoothly and on schedule Sunday, despite the Sunday after Thanksgiving being the busiest travel day of the year in the United States.

The crowds, which are the largest of the year nationwide, according to Independenttraveler.com, were not enough to dampen the holiday spirits of passengers and airport workers.

Mary Peters of Chappaqua was returning to Elon College on Sunday, flying into Raleigh-Durham airport via Washington D.C., on U.S. Air. She was happy to report that her 3 p.m. flight was taking off on time.

Attendants checking in passengers at United, AirTran, Delta and Jet Blue all said flights had proceeded on schedule with one Delta flight running 10 minutes late.

"Traffic was heavy but smooth," one attendant said.

"It was very busy, but moving right along," another said.

Bridget Corney of New Rochelle was returning to Tampa on Jet Blue. She's a student at Tampa University and said that her flight was also leaving on time.

A passenger returning to Westchester County Airport from West Palm Beach, who declined to give her name, also said her flights were on time to Florida on Wednesday and back to Westchester Sunday.

"My only complaint was they allowed dogs on the flight and they barked for three hours," she said.
