Weekend Tip Yields No Results in Spierer Case

Bloomington Police continued their search over the weekend for missing Edgemont resident Lauren Spierer, after someone reported a suspicious odor with the possibility of a body.

When the tip was received at 3 p.m. on Sunday, police assumed that it might have something to do with the Spierer investigation. Detectives and searchers arrived at the location to find a four-foot by two-foot freshly-dug mound of dirt, said Captain Joe Qualters, spokesperson for the Bloomington Police Department.

An examination of the dirt yielded no further information. Investigators said that the dirt mound could have been left from recently moved construction equipment.

The Bloomington Police Department also eliminated the white truck from its investigation as they identified the vehicle's logo and contacted its owner. The owner, who remains anonymous, was picking up an employee. He showed a detective his route, which was all supported by video evidence.

"The only frustration is that we are not able to provide an answer at this point," said Qualters, about finding Spierer.

Search efforts have not wavered as Saturday pulled in 160 volunteer searchers and Sunday garnered 138.

"They are accomplishing a great deal when they are set out on those missions," Qualters said.

Charlene Spierer, Lauren's mother, spoke indirectly to the person who has information about her daughter at Monday's press conference, saying that their "only goal is to find Lauren."

"I'm begging and pleading with you to take the high road," Charlene said. "If you know somebody that has the information, there are all kinds of ways to get the information to us anonymously."

Press conferences this week will take place on Wednesday and Friday at 11:30 a.m. More information about the case can be found at www.FindLauren.com.

Any additional information about Spierer's whereabouts should be directed to the Bloomington Police Department at 812-339-4477 or the America's Most Wanted tip line at 800-CRIME-TV.
