Valhalla Elementary PTA's Host Community Picnic

VALHALLA, N.Y. – The PTA for Virginia Road Elementary School and Kensico Elementary School of the Valhalla School District held a community picnic Saturday at Kensico Elementary School.

“It’s a little community building and time for everyone to get together with their kids. It’s a great picnic,” Valhalla Superintendent of Schools Brenda Myers said.

The PTA’s sponsored the picnic, which not only had a barbecue, but games and activities for families as well.

“We just really appreciate the support,” Myers said. “Our parents have been such huge supporters and the PTA’s have gone above and beyond to make sure the kids have really good structured time together, so we appreciate it.”

In the cafeteria, there were arts and crafts stations for the kids and a DJ played music by the playground.

Valhalla School District is dedicating this school year to “Innovation: The Path of Excellence,” according to a letter from Myers.

“Each day we will focus on finding the promise in each child, supporting each student’s individual development and accelerating their talents,” Myers stated in the letter. “The students at the Valhalla Union Free School District are our greatest asset and our most important priority.”

Myers hopes that the hard work of the Valhalla School District parents continues throughout the 2011-12 year.

“This year, our entire Valhalla team is working hard to focus on the best strategies for continuous improvement and concentrating our energy and resources to ensure the success of every student,” Myers said. “As we move forward this year, we will need your help in providing us with information, volunteering your time and staying involved with the youth in our community.”
