TARRYTOWN, N.Y. New York State police confirmed Thursday that the body that washed ashore on the Lyndhurst property in Tarrytown Wednesday is 24-year-old Scott Uzzo, a Hawthorne resident and former Greenburgh water department worker who jumped from the Tappan Zee Bridge in December.
Uzzo jumped from the Tappan Zee Bridge after he lost his job with the Town of Greenburgh. Police searched for several days, but were unable to find Uzzo's body after he jumped. State police said they were able to identify Uzzo through dental records.
Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner said he had spoken with Uzzo's former colleagues since the tragedy occurred.
He was very well liked, a good worker and he is missed, Feiner said. Although finding Mr. Uzzo's body may bring some sort of closure to his family and friends, those who knew him will always miss him and will always be saddened by the tragedy. He made some mistakes, but he did a lot of good with his life.
Uzzo is a 2005 graduate of Westlake High School. He was born in North Tarrytown, now called Sleepy Hollow. He is survived by his parents, two brothers and his fraternal grandmother, as well as several cousins and many friends.
A track inspector for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority found Uzzo's body on the rocks on the Hudson River shore around noon on Wednesday.
Uzzo's family held a memorial service on Jan. 14. Hawthorne Funeral Home said Thursday it would be handling funeral arrangements.
Uzzo's family has previously requested that donations be made to the Holy Rosary Church Outreach Program at 170 Bradhurst Ave. in Hawthorne in lieu of flowers.
