ARMONK, N.Y. – North Castle played an integral strategic role for General George Washington and his men during the Revolutionary War.

According to North Castle Town Historian Doris Finch Watson’s article on NorthCastleNY.com, during the Battle of White Plains General Washington had men positioned high in North Castle’s hills where they fired down at the British troops of General Howe, holding them from a advancing.

As a result, Watson writes many historians feel the battle, and the hills of North Castle, marked an important turning point in the Revolution.
