County Legislators to Hold Three Budget Hearings

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Westchester lawmakers would like to invite residents to three public hearings on the 2012 county budget, which county legislators and County Executive Robert Astorino have agreed to craft without tax increases or threatening the county’s triple A bonds ratings.

Legislator Kenneth Jenkins, the chairman of the Board of Legislators, said participation at public hearings would help make budget process more transparent.

“The way we’ve kept on the right track in terms of fiscal responsibility is by listening to what county residents have to say and making appropriate decisions regarding smart spending and cost-cutting to help save taxpayers’ hard-earned dollars,” Jenkins (D-Yonkers) said in a statement.

County lawmakers are hosting a southern Westchester hearing on the budget at the New Rochelle High School at 7 p.m. on Nov. 22.

A northern Westchester hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Nov. 30 at the Somers High School.

The final hearing is slated for Dec. 6 and will be held in the legislators’ chambers on the eighth floor of the Michaelian Office Building in White Plains.
