Annual Joseph Riverso Golf Outing Has 12th Renewal

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – The Archbishop Stepinac High School family will join the Joseph R. Riverso Memorial Foundation for its 12th Annual Joe Riverso Memorial Golf Outing on May 7 at Armonk’s Brynwood Golf & Country Club.

Riverso, a football and golf standout at Stepinac and graduate of Iona College in New Rochelle, remained a Stepinac booster throughout the years since his graduation in 1986. He was killed on Sept. 11, 2001, in the World Trade Center, where he worked for Cantor Fitzegerald.

“It has been over 10 years since that terrible day on 9/11,” Stepinac football coach Mike O’Donnell said. “I still remember it like it was yesterday. We lost a great friend, coach and role model. Since then, the Joseph R. Riverso Memorial Foundation has continued to keep Joe alive in our community. “

A White Plains resident, husband and father, Riverso has left a legacy of dedication to young student athletes. His friends and family joined with Stepinac to form the . Riverso Foundation in his memory and carry on his generous spirit by embracing a cause that was dear to his heart: helping young athletes reach their full potential.

Since 2002, the foundation has awarded scholarships to graduating seniors at Stepinac, funding the “Lineman Award,” given to the best lineman on the varsity football team. The foundation also sponsors the Joseph R. Riverso Memorial Classic Football Game at Stepinac.

“The foundation has funded the Riverso Night game, allowing our football players to play a night game each year in Joe's honor,” O’Donnell said. “It has funded more than 50 scholarships for a Stepinac senior going on to college. As you would imagine, after 10 years, people start to forget. They move on from what was such a strong commitment. I would hate to see the great work of the foundation become a memory because we don’t have the support from the Stepinac community.”

The golf outing begins with an 11:30 a.m. registration and luncheon. There is a 1 p.m. shotgun start and a dinner and cocktail reception at 6 p.m.

There is a $250 donation per person for the full event and $75 for dinner only. Sponsors can purchase a hole sponsorships for $200, a tee for $100 and an awards sponsorship for $1,000.

There will be prizes for Top Three Foursomes, Closest to the Pin and Longest Drive, a Silent Sports Auction sponsored by Eagel Sports and raffles with prizes that include: 1st, $1,000 Las Vegas trip; 2nd, Apple iPad, and 3rd, Apple iTouch.
