A 14-year-old driver and 15-year-old passenger who were caught after crashing a stolen SUV during a pursuit from Route 3 to Route 21 were carrying key fobs from vehicles swiped as far south as the Jersey Shore, Clifton police said. Thief Steals Newark Police Car
A thief who stole a marked Newark police car Thursday was captured a short time later in Nutley, authorities said. Authorities followed the vehicle on GPS after it was stolen at a shopping center on McCarter Highway (Route 21). At one point it was pegged near the Belleville Turnpike bridge from North Arlington, said police who were monitoring the incident. The vehicle then headed north on Route 21 before it somehow became disabled on the highway, they said. Wrong-Way Driver Causes Serious Crash On Routes 1&9, Police Say
One person was listed in critical condition following a head-on crash on Routes 1&9 in Newark Saturday, authorities said. A driver heading southbound in the northbound lane struck an oncoming vehicle at the intersection with Route 21 around 1:20 p.m., Newark Public Safety Director Brian O’Hara said.
