A bicyclist who was struck and killed last week by a New Jersey State Police car driven by a department veteran with a deep history of social work was identified by authorities as 59-year-old Raul L. Diaz of Long Valley. Diaz was struck on Willow Grove Street (Route 604) outside the Hackettstown Senior Housing Development off Brook Hollow Drive in Warren County an hour before sunrise on Monday, Feb. 5. NJSP Sgt. Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Hospitalizes NJ Woman: Police
A 71-year-old woman from Hackettstown was hospitalized after getting exposed to high levels of carbon monoxide, authorities said. On Sunday, Dec. 3, at approximately 6:20 p.m., the Hackettstown police responded to a residence on the 100 block of Willow Grove Street for a welfare check. The woman told police she was not feeling well. The Hackettstown Fire Department was requested to check for possible readings of carbon monoxide. Beloved NJ Wrestling Coach Curt Pakutka Dies After Cancer Battle, 55
A beloved New Jersey high school teacher and coach died after a lengthy battle to esophageal cancer. Curt D. Pakutka, 55, of Mansfield Township, died on June 7, at Hackettstown Medical Center. He was a well-loved physical education and driver's education teacher, as well as occasionally teaching health, at Newton High School in Sussex County. His love for sports followed him when he became a wrestling coach for Jefferson Township in Morris County from 2004-2015 and the head coach for the Newton High School Girls softball team from 2008-2019, according to his obituary. UPDATE: A 19-year-old motorcyclist was killed in last week’s crash on Route 46, authorities confirmed. The crash occurred between the motorcyclist and a Jeep Cherokee on Route 46 at Village Way in Mount Olive during the afternoon on Thursday, Nov. 10, a Morris County Prosecutor’s spokesperson told DailyVoice.com. The victim was taken to Hackettstown Medical Center and pronounced dead shortly after. The crash remains under investigation by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office. No further details were available.

One person had to be extricated and two others were hospitalized following a serious crash in Morris County, authorities said. The Long Valley First Aid Squad responded to the crash during the afternoon on Tuesday, Sept. 6, the department said. Crew members stabilized the vehicle and used a cross ram technique to remove the b-pillar from the victim. A McDonald's employee suffered burns on her palm when a customer handed her a smoking dollar bill, authorities said. The McDonald's worker took the cash around 10:25 p.m. Sunday and realized only after it was in her hand that it was still "smoldering," Hackettstown police said. New Jersey State Police deployed stop sticks Friday night to nab a drunk driver on Route 80, ending a wild chase between Morris and Warren counties.
