A police officer suffered smoke inhalation and 46 dogs were rescued from a boarding facility when a fire broke out at an industrial complex in Essex County Saturday night, April 20, authorities said.
Police officers from Fairfield, West Caldwell, North Caldwell, and Wayne responded to the Pio Costa Industrial Complex on Bloomfield Avenue in Fairfield around 9:35 p.m. on reports of smoke condition, local police said.

Two people were arrested for two different shoplifting incidents, attempting to steal hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise from the store, Fairfield police said.
Police were dispatched to Target that afternoon for a report of a shoplifter in custody, officers said. While shopping, Catherine Bustamonte, a 36-year-old Paterson resident, placed several items in a black duffel bag and placed other items in a shopping cart, police said.
