The winning team, from the FreshSTEP peer mentoring program at PCSST, was awarded a $500 grant from the Paterson Municipal Alliance.

The students were required to present their campaign to raise substance abuse awareness in the form of a two-minute “elevator pitch” to the judges. The 15 PCSST juniors will carry out the campaign in their school and community.

All students at PCSST will wear red T-shirts with the campaign slogan “#StartStrongStayStrong” every Monday to start the week. They will also use the hashtag to promote their message on social media.

The campaign will continue over the next few months and will return to the Teen Summit in the spring, when a video showing the students in action will be shown. They will then compete against other schools that received grants for a grand prize.
