Arturo Enrique Quiroga, 39, was released on a summons after being processed at police headquarters on marijuana possession charges, Capt. Laurence Martin said.

Sgt. Michael Mc Niff, who was working the contraband weapons screener at the Wayne Township Municipal Complex, smelled the pot when he opened Quiroga's back to search it, Martin said.

Quiroga was also carrying receipts from a marijuana possession charge from Wednesday in Little Falls, he said.

Following his release, Quiroga "became verbally abusive toward Sergeant McNiff," but no additional charges were filed, Martin said.
