Search on for driver who nearly ran down Fair Lawn police officer

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Authorities tonight were searching for a 20-year-old local man who they said nearly ran down a Fair Lawn police officer.

The officer was investigating a suspicious car report when he spotted the gray 2010 Mazda on Essex Street at Morlot Avenue.

The driver “aimed the car at [the officer] and just missed hitting him,” a law enforcement source told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “Then he took off.”

Police believe he headed into Paterson.

Authorities obtained an arrest warrant for the man, who has previous addresses in Fair Lawn and Dumont and prior arrests. He’s charged this time with aggravated assault on a police officer, among other offenses.

CLIFFVIEW PILOT was withholding the suspect’s identity until he’s arrested.
