The call came in just before 9 Saturday night from a Fardale-area homeowner who found a rock thrown through her back-door window pane, Police Sgt. Tim O‘Hara told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

On his way to the house, Mahwah Police Officer Thomas Solimano spotted Frank Pierro — who only recently was released from jail — walking from the neighborhood.

Solimano called in reinforcements, then headed to the scene.

Minutes later, Ramsey Police Officer Adam Macaluso spotted Pierro, 51, walking through his town carrying a yellow plastic bag, O’Hara said.

One question led to another and Pierro, after handing the officer his driver‘s license, dropped the bag and bolted, the sergeant said.

Macaluso immediately found him in someone’s backyard. In Pierro’s pockets were several pieces of jewelry, O’Hara said. There was also plenty in the bag,

Pierro, a Passaic native, also was carrying maps of Mahwah, Ramsey, Oakland, and Franklin Lakes, O’Hara said.

The victim got her jewelry back and Pierro got shipped to the Bergen County Jail on $5,000 bail — both after processing. He’s charged with burglary, theft and criminal mischief.
