Paramus police chase, arrest suspect in $4,500 sunglasses theft

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Paramus police are investigating whether a Paterson man arrested and charged yesterday in the theft of $4,500 worth of sunglasses from a Garden State Plaza store is connected to more than $8,000 worth of designer shades boosted since January from malls and borough-area stores.

An employee at the Sunglass Hut called police after spotting a man suspected in the theft last Saturday of of 22 pairs of assorted styles and brands of sunglasses valued at $4,509.43, Capt. Robert M. Guidetti said this afternoon.

Officer Paul Siemon, accompanied by security officers, chased the man through the mall and across Route 17 to the BJ’s parking lot, where he pretended to be a worker pushing shopping carts, Guidetti said.

Officers Mike Kelly and Marc Pinajian weren’t fooled, though.

Johan Feliu, 24, was being held on $5,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with theft.

Meanwhile, police continued their investigation into the thefts – including those of a pair of Raybans valued at $150, Louis Vuitton “Evidence” sunglasses valued at $725, and several pairs of Polo, Prada, and Versace models valued at $7,780, the captain said.
