Detective Michael Cebulski and Officer Sal Cosentino arrested 46-year-old Ishmell Sumter as he was leaving his apartment last Friday and charged him in connection with stealing 15 Michael Kors watches during five thefts at area malls, beginning Dec. 19.

“Cebulski used video surveillance and witnesses to identify Sumter,” Police Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg said this afternoon.

The detective determined that Sumter used “random acquaintances” to drive him to the malls, where he was in and out in a minute, the chief said.

Sumter remained held on $5,000 bail this afternoon in the Bergen County Jail, charged with one count of theft and two of shoplifting, pending a court appearance tomorrow.
