The five were chased down following a burglary at the former Preakness Hospital Healthcare unit in Haledon — near Passaic Community College — around 4:30 a.m.

Passaic County Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik said his patrol, CSI, K9 and investigation units responded to the burglary.

One of his officers was injured and later released after being treated at St. Joseph’s Medical Center. the sheriff said.

Several departments participated in the search — among them, Clifton, Haledon, North Haledon, Paterson and Wayne, Berdnick said.

Wayne police provided nighttime thermal imaging cameras and the New Jersey State Police sent a helicopter.

William Paterson police played a huge role, catching two of the suspects.

The adults arrested: Michael Nieves, 20,  Ricardo Aguirre, 19 and Aleidy Ortiz, 18, all of Paterson. They are charged with burglary and obstruction.

Juvenile complaints of the same offenses were signed against two teens taken into custody. One is from Paterson and other Haledon, Berdnik said.

An investigation was continuing, the sheriff said.
