Authorities didn’t say whether the deaths were being considered murder-suicide or the work of someone taken into custody, or whether autopsies were being conducted -- only that they were conducting "an active and ongoing criminal investigation."
They also didn't say why they waited nearly 24 hours to release any information.
Clifton police who responded to 5 Everson Place after a call of concern came in just before 8:30 p.m. found the bodies of Cristoforo and Lucia Orlando, they said.
“Although the matter remains an active and ongoing criminal investigation, no suspects are being sought at this time and there is no danger to the public,” Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Clifton Police Chief Mark Centurione said in a joint announcement.
They also asked that anyone with “additional information” about the incident call a tips line at 1-877-370-PCPO, email tips@passaiccountynj.org or contact the Clifton police detectives: (973) 470-5908.
