Community Rallies For Toms River Dad, Teacher Fighting Cancer The Toms River community has banded together to raise money for one of its teachers who is battling cancer. In 2019, Gabe Roonan was diagnosed with Stage 3 rectal cancer that has advanced and will require additional procedures.  Roonan is teaching 7th grade at Toms River Intermediate East and previously taught at East Dover, Walnut. Roonan is married to Melissa Roonan, a 3rd grade elementary school teacher, also in the Toms River School District. The couple has two young children.
