Firefighters, Police Team Up To Rescue Dog In NJ House Fire Firefighters and police teamed up to rescue a dog who was pulled from a smoky house fire Saturday night in Hillsdale. The blaze apparently began in the basement of the home on Deer Trail Road at Ruckman Avenue at the Woodcliff Lake border around 6:30 p.m. May 27. The fire quickly went to two alarms, bringing companies from surrounding towns both to the scene and in coverage. Firefighters quickly doused the blaze, which broke out on the second floor of the Sika Corporation building on Polito Avenue down the road from Medieval Times shortly before 2:30 p.m. A faulty electrical component on processing equipment was the cause, authorities said. Suspicious Powder At Bergen County Board Of Elections Brings Hazmat Team A suspicious powder on an envelope sent to the Bergen County Superintendent of Elections Office brought a hazmat team to the county administration building in Hackensack on Wednesday. One person was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center and was released after being evaluated, responders said. A county Hazardous Materials Unit tested the substance and determined it wasn't harmful, Bergen County Director of Communications Derek Sands said. Neither the Science Department teacher involved nor any students or staff were injured or exposed in the incident just before 2 p.m., responders said.
