Garfield Man, 29, Killed In Motorcycle Crash Tomasz Dragan of Garfield loved his motorcycle. The 29-year-old took his last ride on May 27, succumbing to his injuries on June 4. More than $10,500 had been raised toward funeral expenses on a GoFundMe as of Wednesday. Born in Poland, Tomasz moved to the U.S. settling in Garfield with his family. He graduated from Garfield High School in 2009 and went on to work as a driver for Kuiken Brothers, his obituary said. A NJ Devils and NY Red Bulls fan, Tomasz also enjoyed music and playing guitar. Mother's Memorial Candles Fuel Fire At Daughter's Saddle Brook Gravesite A fire that ravaged a gravesite in Saddle Brook on Wednesday apparently was ignited by candles left by the deceased’s mother, authorities said. Township volunteer firefighters and maintenance workers at St. Mary’s Cemetery doused the blaze, which destroyed several items left by the woman as a memorial to her daughter, Police Chief Robert Kugler said. At least one of several lighted candles surrounding the grave “may have broken open, spilling hot wax onto the leaves, flowers and other memorial artifacts left at the grave,” Kugler said. The woman “often visits” the gravesite, he said. …

Garfield Native Christopher Kanarski Dies, 35 Christopher Kanarski died on Nov. 16. He was 35 years old.  Kanarski was born and Passaic and raised in Garfield. He moved to Rockaway and graduated from Rockaway High School in 2001. Kanarski earned his associates degree from Morristown Community College and had been working for Verizon in East Hanover. Services were held Friday. Interment was at St. Mary's Cemetery in Saddle Brook.

Hackensack Native Brett Verdicchio Dies, 39 HACKENSACK, N.J. — Brett Anthony Verdicchio, a Hackensack native, died on Jan. 7 in Del Ray Beach, Fla. He was 39 years old. Brett was raised in Campbell Hall, N.Y., and shined as an athlete throughout his life.
