Edgewater Shop Owner Puts An Artful Twist On Froyo
EDGEWATER, N.J. — An Edgewater frozen yogurt shop owner is combining unusual aspects in business. “I love art. You see it in all the details around the shop," said Paul Turpanjian of Ridgefield, who opened Yogart on Old River Road in 2013. Probiotic cultures are in his dairy creations along with real baklavah, citrus and vanilla. He seeks to surprise customers with fitness and art classes in the same space as the dining area. Digital images of famous artwork hang on the walls - with a play on the frozen yogurt treats. Leonardo da Vinci's "Mona Lisa" is holding a frozen …

Fairview Guitarist Mixes Metal, Messiah
FAIRVIEW, N.J. -- Headlining at the legendary Whisky a Go Go in West Hollywod, Fairview native Sergio Michel played a self-penned heavy metal tune that came to him as he walked up Gorge Road from Edgewater after he proposed to his girlfriend -- and she said no. “I'm a troubadour of real-life melancholia,” said Michel, 36. "I've seen a lot of people lose their lives to bad influences. I'm independent and at times abrasive, but believe in facing darkness with light." "Marry Me, Cindy" was one of several tunes he performed that night on the same Los Angeles stage that was a…

And the…

Cresskill Varsity Golfers Take First Swings Toward Championship
CRESSKILL, N.J. — The Cresskill High School varsity golf team started training this month, and members are aiming to win this year's championship after a 13-year drought. Head Coach Adam Preciado of Dumont saw the Cougars' record improve from 4-11 in 2014, his first year with the team, to 8-11 last year. Now, he's hoping to have access to local country clubs that may allow the team to work on chipping and putting, Preciado noted. “I spend more time on their mental approach than how they are swinging the club,” said Preciado, who manages a dozen coed varsity players. “In the end they are…
