Grease duct bandits grab large haul at Route 46 restaurant

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Someone slid down the grease duct and through the cooktop oven of the Old San Juan Restaurant, then took frozen shrimp, meat, cash and two 42-inch flat-screens, Saddle Brook Police Chief Robert Kugler told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

About $100 was taken from the cash register of the Route 46 restaurant, the chief said. However, the food and electronics held significantly more value, he said.

Whoever was responsible “cut the telephone alarm wires and disconnected the outside siren speaker to disrupt the alarm circuit,” Kugler told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The restaurant closed around 10 o’clock Sunday night. The owner discovered the burglary at 11 Monday morning.

The Bergen County Sheriff’s Department’s Bureau of Criminal Identification collected evidence for the investigation.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Saddle Brook Police: (201) 843-7642
