Vandals Destroy Memorial To Lakeland HS Boys Killed In Crash
Friends of two Lakeland High School students died in a car crash in March were shocked to discover a memorial for them was vandalized. Brett Kuiken snapped a photo of the memorial honoring Jonathan Carlson, 17 of West Milford, and Victor Weinpel, 19 of Wanaque. covered in blue, green and yellow spray paint Wednesday. Kuiken called the act disrespectful "not only to the boys who were lost, but also to their friends and family who came together to make the memorial, he said. Services Set For Former Lakeland HS Teens Killed In Wanaque Crash
Services are scheduled at the same funeral home this week for two former Lakeland High School students killed last week in a crash in Wanaque. The first service will be held for Victor Weinpel, 19, at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the D'Agostino Funeral Home in Haskell. Visiting hours will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Visiting for John Carlson, 17, will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 23, with a memorial service at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home. D'Agostino's is located at 881 Ringwood Avenue in Haskell. : Authorities ID Teens Killed In Ringwood Crash
UPDATE: Authorities Wednesday night identified the two former Lakeland Regional High School students killed in a crash hours earlier in Ringwood. Victor Weinpel, 19, of Wanaque, lost control of a 1999 Toyota Corolla after it hit a guardrail on Greenwood Lake Turnpike north of Skyline Drive around 3:15 p.m., authorities said. The sedan crossed into the oncoming lane and was T-boned by a 2014 Chevy commercial van. Weinpel and his passenger, a 17-year-old boy from West Milford identified by family and friends as John Carlson, were pronounced dead at the scene. The van driver, 64-year-old Pa…

Gov. Phil Murphy's proposed education investment plan for New Jersey would give millions to underfunded districts -- but would also take away hundreds from those that are thriving (about $90 million altogether). SNOUT OUT: Police in Englewood and Woodcliff Lake have added specially-designed oxygen masks for pets to their life-saving equipment. Each set donated by at-home pet services provider Canine Company includes masks in three sizes to fit a range of pets, from small mammals to giant breed dogs. Boiler Room Accident Injures Worker, Clears Lakeland Regional HS
A boiler room accident Thursday morning injured an electrician and cleared Lakeland Regional High School in Wanaque. The 57-year-old worker arced a wire, causing a breaker to blow, around 8:10 a.m, Wanaque Police Capt. Kenneth Farina said. Contrary to other media reports, there wasn’t an explosion, Farina emphasized. The electrician was taken to Chilton Hospital with minor cuts and burns and students and staff returned to the building, Farina said. Lakeland Regional serves students from Ringwood and Wanaque.
