UPDATE: A 10-week-old Golden Retriever puppy was alive when she was dumped into a West Milford lake, a local rescue group said after a Morris County woman was charged with killing her.
Tonya Fea, 47, of Jefferson Township "reportedly confessed," The Last Resort Animal Rescue reported.
"But, much to our horror, our worst fears were confirmed: The official [necropsy] report confirms that drowning was the cause of death," officials with the non-profit organization wrote.
The dog "was intentionally drowned," they said.

A painting contractor from Bergenfield drove through town swiping items from private homes and businesses – including a tree – while driving a van with his name on the side, authorities said.
Robert Solano, 47, kept busy for nearly a month, stealing a garden hose and faucet from an automobile business, a weeping cherry tree from the front lawn of a private residence, two ladders from a power supply company and several packages from people’s front steps, Capt. Mustafa Rabboh said.

Fair Lawn Police Captain Cracks Months-Old Cell Tower Battery Thefts
FAIR LAWN, N.J. – Thanks to a Fair Lawn police captain, one of two CVS shoplifters caught in the act was also charged with swiping four cellphone tower batteries several months ago, authorities said.
Hawthorne couple Michael Wright, 41, and Nicole Paletta, 36 -were carrying nearly $50 worth of items taken from the River Road pharmacy when police arrested them a short time later.
Paletta was released pending a court hearing.
Wright, however, was held, after Capt. Joseph Dawicki identified him as the burglar who took the batteries from a Saddle River Road tower last Dec. 19.
