Ten people including two at large have been charged in a mortgage fraud scheme that included racketeering, theft, tampering with records and money laundering across Essex County, authorities said. Maywood police snared a whopping 15 people in the mailbox theft of what turned into more than $40,000 worth of checks. Police responding to a citizen’s call at 3:23 a.m. last Aug. 19 found a mailbox pried open, and its contents removed, at the intersection of West Pleasant and Wyoming avenues, Detective Sgt. The tour bus owned by Rockaway-based Z & D Tours in an early-morning crash that killed five people had no passenger seatbelts, federal officials said Monday. Paterson police again raided a go-go bar cited earlier this year for prostitution, as well as a pop-up after-hours club where they seized 138 bottles of booze, 20 hookah pipes and nearly $1,050 in cash. Four New Jersey residents were among 27 people arrested for their roles in a multimillion-dollar scheme to commit bribery and a no-fault insurance scam. A 57-year-old mechanic from the Bronx was charged with sexually assaulting a pre-teen when he lived in Hackensack. Members of Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella’s Special Victims Unit arrested Francisco Rosario after they and Hackensack police investigated a June complaint, the prosecutor said Monday.
