A group of heroic Paterson firefighters didn't have time to retrieve special equipment, so they grabbed hold of a dollar bus and lifted it off a woman who'd just been struck, authorities said. The pinned 53-year-old victim was alert and conscious after the accident on McBride Avenue near Hoxey Street shortly after 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, Fire Chief Brian McDermott said. UPDATE: Paterson firefighters continued hitting hot spots and searching for possible casualties from a fast-moving weekend blaze a little over an hour and a half after it began. Smoke eaters were met with heavy fire at the back of the second floor extending to the third when they arrived at the wood-frame house at the corner of Sheridan Avenue and Henry Street shortly before 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 27. Moving swiftly and with purpose, Paterson police and firefighters got 10 people to safety in a fast-moving fire that severely damaged three homes before dawn Friday. The three-alarm blaze broke on the second floor of a home in the middle of a row of squat houses on Lafayette Street out around 3 a.m. In less than 15 minutes, the flames quickly had spread to each of the two neighboring homes, as well. Driver Seriously Injured In Rollover Off Route 80
A driver was seriously injured in a horrific rollover crash off Route 80 in Paterson early Thursday evening. New Jersey State Police, Paterson firefighters and EMS responded after the small SUV crashed on the exit off the westbound highway to Route 19 shortly before 8 p.m. The 20-something driver, who lost consciousness after being ejected, suffered multiple injuries, responders said. VIDEO: Three women whose sedan slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer on the shoulder of Route 80 were all expected to survive thanks to a trio of New Jersey State Police troopers and Paterson firefighters.
