Repeat Hackensack Offender Captured After Pulling Knife On Garfield Resident: Police
A repeat offender from Hackensack was caught hiding in a Garfield resident's backyard after he threatened someone with a knife, police said. Elijah I. Fulgham, 24, was also wanted on a December 2021 warrant out of Teaneck, records show. A 49-year-old Garfield man who's had an ongoing beef with a city sanitation worker attacked him with a baseball bat while he was on a break -- and paid for it, authorities said. Derrick L. A 23-year-old ex-con from Garfield who was paroled only weeks ago after serving time for a drive-by was arrested and charged with a shooting last week at a local bar. Ramon Santana, 23, was wanted on a warrant for the 1 a.m. shooting on June 19 when Garfield Police Officer Nicholas Kopacz spotted him walking near the corner of Midland Avenue and Outwater Lane exactly a week later -- also around 1 a.m., Capt. UPDATE: A firefighter sustained a minor injury during a blaze that ripped through a multi-family, mixed-use Garfield building late Friday into Saturday. The fire broke out shortly before 11:30 p.m. on the second floor of the three-story Maple Avenue building, which houses the Sud's City laundry on Palisade Avenue. Authorities: Traffic Stop Turns Up Loaded Gun In Garfield
A Garfield man remained held after police found a loaded handgun in his car following an overnight traffic stop, authorities said. Officer Joseph Kopacz was backed up by Officer Jaime Vazquez after he stopped a Nissan Altima near the corner of Palisade and Van Winkle avenues shortly after 1:30 a.m. last week. Teens who at first tussled with one another after a basketball game at Garfield High School Thursday night got into it with police, who took two 15-year-olds into custody, authorities said.
