Dumont Firefighter Suspended After Close Call With Child Pedestrian, Investigation Shows A Dumont firefighter has been suspended for 30 days after nearly striking an 11-year-old girl walking home from school with his department vehicle while responding to a call, officials confirmed. The incident occurred on Tuesday, Feb. 4, outside Engine/Rescue Company No. 3 on Rucereto Avenue, according to the police report obtained by Daily Voice. Fumes Clear Dumont High School An exhaust fan broke, filling part of Dumont High School with neutralized sulfur fumes Monday afternoon, responders said. Neither the Science Department teacher involved nor any students or staff were injured or exposed in the incident just before 2 p.m., responders said. Dumont Fire Chief Mark Abdulla called the incident a ventilation issue and not a spill. Also responding were members of the Dumont Volunteer Ambulance Corps, a Bergen County Hazardous Materials Unit and a New Milford Hazardous Materials team.
