Two women died in a fierce Passaic County house fire, authorities confirmed. The three-alarm fire broke out in the basement of two-story, wood-frame home at the top of a long, steep driveway across Hamburg Turnpike from the Stumble Inn in Bloomingdale around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30. Dog Attacked By Bear In Morris County Backyard, Police Say
Police have issued a warning to Morris County residents after a dog was attacked by a bear in a local backyard. Officers were called to a home on Scott Street in Butler the day after the Saturday, August 20 attack, police said. A friend of the dog’s owner had apparently been pet sitting when the animal was let outside, police said. The friend was unaware that a mother bear and her cubs had entered the backyard, which was fenced. Wawa will be breaking ground in Sussex County on Dec. 10 for the opening of their newest location, NJ Advance Media reports. A groundbreaking ceremony for the new Wawa will happen at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Route 15 and Route 206 in Frankford Township. Morris County mom and special education teacher Jennie Elizabeth Byram died Jan. 22 following a five-year battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was 34. Byram was born in the Bronx and grew up in Butler, her obituary says. She “made her childhood dream come true” by pursuing special education and teaching students in a one-on-one setting for seven years, her obituary says. Anna and Richard Ryczek of Butler were inseparable. “They had a son,” neighbor Pier Rondin said. “I heard that the house was the only possession the old couple had to pass on to him.” Their Myrtle Avenue house went up in flames on New Year’s Eve, claiming both of the lives. Two people died in a New Year's Eve house fire in Butler, authorities said. A 74-year-old man was airlifted to a hospital with severe burns sustained in the Myrtle Avenue blaze, which broke out shortly before 5 p.m., responders said. It was believed that his 72-year-old wife perished at the scene. Two firefighters were taken to the hospital with injuries that didn't appear life-threatening, responders said. Convicted Hackensack Drug Dealer Gets 12 Years In Morris County Jail
A Hackensack man with a history of narcotics trafficking was sentenced Tuesday to 12 years in prison, authorities said. Michael T. Swanson, 42, dealt cocaine in Morris and surrounding counties before he was caught. He pleaded guilty to distribution of cocaine and conspiracy to distribute controlled dangerous substances, according to the Morris County Prosecutor's Office. A former Elmwood Park teacher arrested on low-degree child abuse charges had her teaching license revoked by state officials. Ashley L. Frabizzio, 34, of Butler was taken into custody in 2015 after a school administrator at the Sixteenth Avenue Elementary School notified authorities, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said in a release. Two Wayne police officers on a Route 23 commercial district safety and security detail nabbed a driver from Butler with 85 bags of heroin, authorities said.
