DUI Off-Duty Sergeant Charged In Route 23 Crash That Killed Dad Seeking Better Life: Prosecutor
An off-duty police sergeant has been charged in a head-on crash that killed a 55-year-old man on his way to work earlier this month on Route 23 in Morris County, authorities said.
Keith Gunther, 42, of Wanaque, and a sergeant with the East Hanover Police Department, was behind the wheel of the Ford F-150 that was traveling south in the northbound lanes when it struck a 2005 Toyota Camry, headed north, head-on just before 11 p.m. in Riverdale on Tuesday, Oct. 15, Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll said.
Hamid Shabuddin, a passenger in the Toyota, was killed as a result of the crash.

Fleeing Driver Hits Officer, Arrested At NJ Costco: Police
A 27-year-old Denville man was arrested and charged after he struck a police officer while fleeing on Sunday, Oct. 20, authorities said.
While officers were conducting a traffic stop on Indian Road, it was discovered the driver, Liam Harrigan, had an active NCIC Warrant out of the Morris County Prosecutor's Office, Denville police said.
As officers attempted to take Harrigan into custody, he fled from them in his vehicle, police said. While fleeing, Harrigan struck a Denville police officer, leaving him with minor injuries, authorities said.

A BMW driver is facing multiple charges after crashing and injuring a family of four on Route 3 on Thursday, Oct. 3, authorities said.
Hamza M. Abdelaziz, 20, of Clifton, was racing in a 2023 black BMW 540 when he struck the Fair Lawn family's vehicle on the Berry’s Creek Bridge in the eastbound lanes in Rutherford, just prior to the East Rutherford border around 1:10 p.m., Rutherford Police Chief John Russo said.
A 35-year-old man, 35-year-old woman, 5-year-old girl, and 3-year-old girl all reported injuries following the crash, Russo said.

A 23-year-old driver was going more than 100 mph in a crash that left three people dead earlier this week in Jersey City, authorities said.
Ziyang Wang, of Jersey City, was behind the wheel of a BMW X5 M0i that struck a Kia Amanti driven by 26-year-old Dylan Weidenfeld head-on, on Paterson Plank Road around 12:45 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16.
Weidenfeld and two of Wang's passengers, whose names were not released, both died. A third passenger of Wang's remains in critical condition, while a front-seat passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Suarez said.

A driver from Middlesex County was charged with assault by auto and DUI after sending a motorcyclist to the hospital in a Flemington crash, authorities announced.
Christopher Grohens, 33, of Spotswood, was charged with assault by auto, DUI, reckless driving, and following too closely, Flemington Borough Police said in a press release on Tuesday, Oct. 25.
