Images Of 26 More Heroes Added To Port Authority PD Line-Of-Duty Death Memorial
The images of 26 Port Authority police officers who died in the line of duty before and after 9/11 were added to a striking memorial on the New Jersey side of the George Washington Bridge. The memorial at Port Authority Police Benevolent Association headquarters off East Palisade Avenue in Englewood Cliffs originally was created to honor the 37 PAPD officers killed in the 9/11 terror attacks on America. They included K9 Sirius, whose handler put him into what was believed to be a safe place at the World Trade Center before the buildings fell. "At that time, we had what we believed to be ei…

‘Stolen Valor’: Former NJ EMT Who Fabricated 9/11 Involvement Smoked Out On Social Media
A former North Bergen and Jersey City Medical Center EMT was removed as a guest speaker at a 9/11 memorial event amid a social media uproar over bogus claims that he’d been at Ground Zero as a New York City firefighter. August Johansen, 45, had his photo published along with a story about his participation in a 9/11 fundraiser in a Tennessee town that’s coincidentally named Union City. In the photo, Johansen is wearing an FDNY patch on his polo shirt. Johansen was outed by NYC Fire Wire, an online news service that also participates in fundraisers and assistance efforts for emergency respo…

How About Some AC? Police Say Pennsylvania Predator Invited Hot Kids To Cool Off In His Car
"Hey kids, you want some candy?" is apparently outdated. Now potential abductors ask, "Hey kids, you want some air conditioning?" That sounds like the beginning of a bad joke but on Tuesday, a man supposedly asked two children that question, according to Derry Township police. Two men in the Swatara Creek area walked from their parked vehicles to the Deer Run development and spoke with 9 and 11-year-old boys sitting with their dog on a porch outside a home around 5 p.m. One man spoke to the children and the other stood by his car. The man "commented that it was hot outside and the boys c…

Body Of Bergen Man, 72, Found In Backyard Pool
In the latter years of his career, Dr. Richard Boguslaw gave names to the dead. The 72-year-old widowed Montvale resident, whose body was found Wednesday afternoon in his backyard pool, was a forensic dentist with the New York City Chief Medical Examiner's Office. He also was a member the past dozen or so years of the Region 2 Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team in New York and New Jersey. DMORTs, as the teams are known, respond to mass deaths -- such as 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina -- to help identify the deceased. Besides identifying human remains, forensic dentists also assess bi…

'We Weathered The Craziest Storms': Hackensack's Heritage Diner Closes
The New Heritage Diner is closing its doors after exactly 28 years under new ownership in Hackensack. Many members of the River Street diner will be locating to its sister location: The Suburban Diner on Route 17 North in Paramus. The 24-hour diner has been open for more than 50 years, and came under new ownership on June 28, 1992. It recently opened for takeout and delivery after the COVID-19 shutdown and on Sunday, June 28, the longtime diner announced it would be closing for good -- to the disappointment of many. "This is so sad," Jeanette Moran wrote. "I will miss you all! I was r…
