PSE&G "agreed relocate its pole on the west side of Kinderkamack Road/Emerson Plaza West," Lamatina said (see circle in the photo above).
"While that circle is now in the middle of the road, the reconfiguration will transform that area into an extension of the green space presently to the north," the mayor wrote on his Facebook page. "The re-strung wires will now be located away from the tree."
The spruce isn't in the clear, however.
A new traffic signal planned for Ackerman Avenue is in that exact spot, Lamatina said.
"I met with our Borough Engineer on Friday to discuss whether the traffic light can be move slightly to accommodate the tree remaining in place," he wrote. "The presence of a storm water line just south of the tree complicates matters and the traffic light can not be moved to the north because it would interfere with NJ Transit’s operations.
"The final decision on whether the tree can be saved will likely occur during the actual construction when test pits are dug to determine if the stanchion for the traffic light can be relocated."
