The 58-year-old victim was taken by ambulance to HackensackUMC at Pascack Valley in Westwood and then flown by AirMed One to the main campus after he slipped and fell onto the concrete floor below around 3:10 p.m., Detective Sgt. John DeVoe said.

River Vale police officers and firefighters, Old Tappan Volunteer Ambulance Corps members and an HUMC paramedic unit responded.

Rescuers descended into the construction site to render aid and get the victim out, DeVoe said.

Westwood police stopped traffic to clear the ambulance's path, he said.

"The Occupational Safety & Health Administration was contacted and is conducting an independent inquiry into the matter," the sergeant said.
