His two daughters notified borough police yesterday afternoon that their father left notes for them and an acquaintance about his intentions hours earlier, Police Chief Frank Regino told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this afternoon.

Uniformed officers found his car parked at the CVS at the corner of Westwood Avenue and Broadway around 4 p.m., Regino said.

“It was cold to the touch, so it had been there awhile,” he said.

As the officers went to the man’s Beech Street home, a Bergen County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit was summoned.

“They followed a trail from the car to a bus stop on Kinderkamack Road,” Regino told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “We’re assuming he got on a bus there.”

Westwood detectives who came in to boost the effort to find the missing resident got an order from a judge to ping his cellphone.

The last call came in from Bedford Hills, in Westchester County, the chief said.

Police in Bedford Hills found the man’s body around 6 p.m., hanging from a tree in a park, Regino said.

“They’re trying to determine whether there’s any significance to the park,” he said.

A pair of Westwood officers went to the Westchester town last night and identified him.

“He lost his wife a year ago today and decided he didn’t want to live without her,” Regino said.

“It’s sad for those he left behind.”
