Westwood schools open tomorrow, with a pair of twists

Beginning tomorrow, Westwood students from the George Elementary School will attend classes this week at Washington School, while those from Brookside Elementary will go to Berkeley. All Halloween-related activities are cancelled at all of the schools.

Students at the Jr./Sr. H.S. and Middle School, and at Washington and Berkeley, will report for full days, as usual.

“We realize this is unorthodox,” Westwood Schools Superintendent Geoff Zoeller said. “[H]owever, due to the unprecedented impact of Hurricane Sandy, our team is confident that these temporary relocations can provide students with a sound instructional experience in the most age-appropriate environment for them.

“Additionally, please note that due to the significant loss of instructional time that has already occurred this week, students are not permitted to wear costumes to school and school-based Halloween events have been cancelled,” Zoeller said.

“In the face of this unprecedented catastrophe to our area, there is an opportunity to overcome a great challenge together,” he added. “Let us be flexible, cooperative, and creative in the way we think about our childrens education this week, as we work together, regardless of the circumstances, to provide our students with excellence in education.”
