Tonight: Country/Western night for popular Pascack Valley-area volunteer stricken by stroke

SHOUT OUT: A Country/Western night is set TONIGHT at Demarest Farms in Hillsdale to benefit one of the Pascack Valley’s most popular and dedicated volunteers, Jeff Alboum, who recently sustained a stroke.

Alboum, 43, of River Vale, was on a Hillsdale Fire Department mutual aid call to a chimney fire in Westwood when he first exhibited signs, friends and colleagues said.

He’s been battling to regain strength on his left side since, they said.

A 17-year Hillsdale DPW veteran, Alboum has served the area for 26 years in all — including with the Hillsdale and River Vale fire departments and ambulance corps, as well as with the Emerson and Westwood ambulance squads.

Conservative estimates are that he’s answered more than 3,000 calls.

“He is a true volunteer, as dedicated an EMT and firefighter as I’ve ever known,” Hillsdale VAC Capt. John Beatty told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “This is a great chance to give back to someone who has given so much.”

Experimental therapies have produced some progress, but they are costly and mostly not covered by insurance.

That has led to the creation of Alboum’s Angels.

The family-friendly C/W night runs from 6:30 – 10:30 p.m. TONIGHT and includes barbecue, live music, line dancing and mechanical bull rides.
