HILLSDALE, N.J. -- Meet Hillsdale's heroes this Sunday, rain or shine, at the borough's annual Emergency Services Open House.

The Oct. 8 emergency responders event at police and fire headquarters on Hillsdale Avenue is free and open to citizens of all ages, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Meet police, firefighters and ambulance squad members and enjoy:

  • An up-close look at responder vehicles;
  • Fatal Vision goggles;
  • A smoke house simulator;
  • Extrication and K9 demonstrations;
  • Photos in firefighting or EMS gear
  • Emergency preparedness information
  • Hot dogs, donuts, popcorn and cider.

ALSO SEE: Hillsdale's Volunteer Ambulance crew helped deliver a baby on Monday. Members were headed back to headquarters from the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood when a driver cut them off and jumped from his car, shouting "Help!"
