Storm sparks Washington Township power line fire

YOU SAW IT HERE FIRST: The evening’s sudden storm was believed responsible for a power line fire that left a gaping hole in a Washington Township street.

The line snapped around 9:45 p.m. on East Glen Avenue at Gabriel Way.

Washington Township police and firefighters responded, along with PSE&G. Ridgewood police helped with traffic control.

East Glen Avenue was closed between Hampshire Road and Gateway Road for about an hour, but no injuries or outages were immediately reported.

Washington Township firfighters extinguished the ground fire after a PSE&G lineman cut power to the circuit.
