An elementary school was locked down as police searched for, and quickly collared, a 39-year-old man involved in a domestic violence assault.
The unarmed attacker had already bolted the Hillsdale home when officers arrived yesterday morning, so Bergen County Police sent two dogs, superiors established a perimeter and the Ann Blanche Smith School was locked down.
It didn’t take long for their quarry to emerge from the woods as the canines closed in, said Police Chief Chip Stalter.
Detective Sgt. Farrell, with help from Officer Sean Kavanagh, arrested him without incident, Stalter said.
His identity was held because the charges against him stem from domestic violence, the chief noted.
Stalter thanked Bergen County Police for their help and praised the effectiveness of school lockdowns in general, which he said are extremely useful in such situations.
