River Vale Police, Seniors Swing The Holidays

RIVER VALE, N.J. -- If y’can’t beat ‘em at arm wrestling, waltz ‘em ‘round the dancefloor, River Vale police said after hosting their popular holiday luncheon with members of the borough Senior Friendship Club.

“It wasn’t easy keeping up with her,” Detectives Sgt. John DeVoe said of Senior Friendship Club Vice President Marion Bahoritsch. “She’s got some moves!”

The Estate at Florentine Gardens generously discounted foods, salads and desserts that borough police enjoyed with the seniors at the Community Center.

But instead of arm wrestling – like they did at a similar event in June – River Vale’s finest jumped, jived and wailed with willing partners.

“We really enjoy the time that we spend with our seniors," Police Chief William Giordano said. "I think it does as much good for us as it does for them.”

Borough officers volunteer to visit the Senior Friendship Club twice each year.

Officer Charles Gerbasio coordinates the events, corresponds with club members throughout the year and is the seniors’ liaison with the department.
