River Vale fundraising event this Friday: special ‘nightclub event’ for youngsters

THIS FRIDAY: It’s not your typical school dance: 6th-, 7th- and 8th-graders from River Vale and Hillsdale are invited to a nightclub-styled event, chaperoned by police, teachers and parents, this Friday.

The River Vale Police Department and its Police Officers Association are sponsoring the event, known as VIBE, from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Holdrum Middle School in River Vale.

Admission is $10 and all proceeds go to supporting a courageous fight against cancer by Mike Blazina, a popular community athletic coach from River Vale.

The group behind VIBE, In the Mix, is a favorite of police departments and parent-teacher associations because of its turnkey ability to take any room and transform it into a nightclub, leaving no concerns over health, safety — or fun.

In the Mix also prides itself on its cutting-edge sound, lighting and video on massive screens. Party-goers can send live text messages and song requests to the 10-feet screens, making the experience interactive. Their DJs also know what keeps a room dancing.

Amid the clean, safe entertainment, many will be thinking of Blazina, who’s been fighting an aggressive form of stage IV kidney cancer known as Renal Cell Carcinoma since being diagnosed on Oct. 3 of last year.

Blazina has served the community as a former baseball, basketball, and flag football coach. His wife, Kathy, has also supported the township in various ways, including serving on the Board of Education and Parent Teacher Association, among other contributions.

Their children, Mike and Natalie, both were graduated the River Vale Police Department’s Junior Police Academy during their time at Holdrum Middle School.
Hot dogs, snacks, and water will be on sale at the event, courtesy of In Thyme Catered Events.

The organizers also want to give special thanks to Ray’s Reproductions for donating the event flyers and the River Vale PTA for donating the candy.

Due to anticipated high-volume traffic, please consider car-pooling and utilizing the Town Hall parking lot as an alternate drop-off / pick-up site.

NOTE: Donations made via check will be accepted at the River Vale Police Department and should be made payable to the River Vale Police Officers Association with “VIBE / Mike Blazina” indicated in the memo portion.
