More than 140 vehicles were stopped at the Rivervale Road checkpoint, Detective Sgt. John DeVoe said.
Among those charged were:
- a 27-year-old Union City man wanted on an outstanding warrant. He also received a summons for being unlicensed driver and not having proof of insurance;
- a 30-year-old male West New York man on an outstanding warrant;
- a 21-year-old Englewood man who they said gave them false information and was unlicensed.
Several other motor vehicle summonses were issued, DeVoe said.
During a River Vale PD checkpoint last week, one driver had to be chased a half-mile before he stopped, while another, who had expired NYFD credential, was charged with having illegal emergency lights on his vehicle.
“Nighttime driving is the most deadly,” the sergeant said. “Seventy-eight percent of the alcohol-impaired drivers involved in fatal crashes during December 2010 were driving from 6 p.m. to 5:59 a.m.
“Data further shows that during December 2010, 45 percent of drivers involved in fatal crashes from 12 a.m. to 2:59 a.m. had [blood alcohol levels] of .15 or higher,” he added, citing National Highway Traffic Safety statistics.
