Regino Of Westwood Takes Helm Of Bergen County Police Chiefs Association

WESTWOOD, N.J. -- Westwood Police Chief Frank Regino was installed Saturday night as this year's president of the Bergen County Police Chiefs Association during a dinner attended by several hundred people at the Rockleigh Country Club in Demarest.

Frank Regino began his career with the Westwood Police Department on March 17, 1974. Upon graduation from the police academy that year, he received the Herbert H. Allmers Memorial Award as the class' Outstanding Student.

Regino was a patrol officer for more than 16 years and attended various service courses, earning various certificates. He was promoted to sergeant in 1990 and for the next nine years served as patrol supervisor.

Regino was promoted to lieutenent in July 1998, to captain just two years later and to deputy chief in November 2004. A month later, he completed the West Point Command & Leadership Program.

Regino took the reins of the department following the retirement of Chief Bradford Buschow in January 2005. Ten months later he officially became chief.

Regino has received various citations, including a lifesaving award for CPR that brought around a 15-year-old boy who nearly drowned at the Westwood Swim Club, and for locating and arresting a suspect wanted for an armed robbery at the Quick Chek in Hillsdale.

His goals included getting the department accredited, which was achieved in March 2011.

In December 2013, the department completed the transition from CALEA Accreditation to The New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police Accreditation program.

Six years ago, the county police chiefs association voted him sergeant at arms. He hwas served the board each year, working his way through various positions.

This March marks 42 years for Regino with the Westwood Police Department.
