Port Authority police arrest Newark Airport passenger with assault rifle, ammo

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Port Authority police last night arrested an Indiana man who they said tried to take an assault rifle resembling an AK-47 and three fully loaded magazines onto a flight to Chicago from Newark Airport.

Adam Urbano, 23, of Valparaiso was about to board a Southwest Air flight with the gun and ammo in a soft gun case at Terminal A when he was taken into custody around 6:40 p.m., the authority’s Joseph Pentangelo said.

Urbano “had no paperwork for the rifle” and told officer he bought it and the ammunition “for recreational purposes,” Pentangelo said.

He was charged with unlawful possession of an assault firearm and possession of prohibited large-capacity ammunition magazines.

The 7.62×89-caliber Ohio Ordinance Work VZ2000 has a folding stock and resembles an AK-47.
