The Maple Avenue Exxon attendant had told the 25-year-old Wayne woman she could go get the $15 she owed if she left her driver’s license because “he would be financially responsible to his employer if she did not return,” Police Chief Dean Ackermann said Monday.
“The woman refused and began to argue with the attendant,” Ackermann said. “She then tried to drive off with the gas nozzle still attached to her vehicle, causing damage to the gas pump.
“The matter was temporarily resolved when the woman’s passenger agreed to pay for the gas,” the chief said.
The station owner agreed to give her a week to pay for the damage or criminal mischief charges will be filed, Ackermann said.
